Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw of the bowlines sailaway from the safe harbour catch the trade winds in your sails ..... EXPLORE , DREAM, DISCOVER....
As you set out for Ithaca hope your road is a long one, full of adventure, full of discovery. Laistrygonians, Cyclops, angry Poseidon – don’t be afraid of them:... See more you’ ll never find things like that on your way as long as you keep your thoughts raised high, as long as a rare excitement stirs your spirit and your body. Laistrygonians, Cyclops, wild Poseidon – you won’t encounter them unless you bring them along inside your soul, unless your soul sets them up in front of you.
No-one wants to lose, The magic that's inside, All the colours of the rainbow, And the treasures we hide, If you want to keep it, Then tears just aren't enough, Don't live off all your memories, Start drowning in your love.
Coming up for air x2 Breathing in deeply, Coming up for air
Somewhere beneath the surface, Is the deepness of the sea, When a heart still fills with wonder, And happiness is free, Just continue on your journey, Cause wisdom's not enough, Don't let the waves erode you, Stop drowning in your love.
The air smells good, The air smells fine, Release the pressure on my mind.
No-one wants to lose the magic that's inside.
The will to win means nothing if you haven’t the will to prepare.” — Juma Ikangaa
“The greatest oak was once a little nut who held its ground.” — Unknown
“You cannot plough a field by turning it over in your mind.” — Author Unknown
“We think too small, like the frog at the bottom of the well. He thinks the sky is only as big as the top of the well. If he surfaced, he would have an entirely different view.” — Mao Tse-Tung
“He knows the water best who has waded through it.” — Danish Proverb
Of course the game is rigged. Don't let that stop you--if you don't play, you can't win. ~Robert Heinlein
"Don't ask yourself what the world needs; ask yourself what makes you come alive. And then go and do that. Because what the world needs is ... people who have come alive." ~Howard Thurman
"Normal day, let me be aware of the treasure you are. Let me learn from you, love you, bless you before you depart. Let me not pass you by in quest of some rare and perfect tomorrow. Let me hold you while I may, for it may not always be so. One day I shall dig my nails into the earth, or bury my face in the pillow, or stretch myself taut, or raise my hands to the sky and want, more than all the world, your return." ~Mary Jean Iron
"O, with what freshness, what solemnity and beauty, is each new day born; as if to say to insensate man, 'Behold!... See more thou hast one more chance! Strive for immortal glory!" ~Harriet Beecher Stowe
“And forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair.” ~Kahlil Gibran
Some people hear their own inner voices with great clearness and they live by what they hear. Such people become crazy or they become legends.

It's like if you want to be a good pianist, you have to do a lot of scales and a lot of practice, and a lot of that is kind of boring, it's work. ...But you need to do that before you can really be very expressive and really play beautiful music. You have to go through that phase of practice and drill. - Terry Tao |

There'll be times when we'l hit the rock-botton in terms of inspiration but the only right thing to do would be to keep striving for your promised land.
I plan to post good, motivational poetry and quotes here which will keep me hopeful and inspired.

There is nothing with which every man is so afraid as getting to know how enormously much he is capable of doing and becoming.
~Soren Kierkegaard
-
To dare is to lose one's footing momentarily. Not to dare is to lose oneself.
~Soren Kierkegaard
-
Never cease loving a person, and never give up hope for him, for even the prodigal son who had fallen most low, could still be saved; the bitterest enemy and also he who was your friend could again be your friend; love that has grown cold can kindle.
~Soren Kierkegaard
-
Do you not know that there comes a midnight hour when every one has to throw off his mask? Do you believe that life will always let itself be mocked? Do you think you can slip away a little before midnight in order to avoid this? Or are you not terrified by it? I have seen men in real life who so long deceived others that at last their true nature... See more could not reveal itself;... In every man there is something which to a certain degree prevents him from becoming perfectly transparent to himself; and this may be the case in so high a degree, he may be so inexplicably woven into relationships of life which extend far beyond himself that he almost cannot reveal himself. But he who cannot reveal himself cannot love, and he who cannot love is the most unhappy man of all.
~Soren Kierkegaard
Dreams are not negotiable.
~Paulo Coelho's studentrockstars status message.
If you have a dream, don't waste your energies explaining why.
~Paulo Coelho's studentrockstars status message.
Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgment that something else is more important than fear.
~Ambrose Redmoon

Frodo: I wish the ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened. Gandalf: So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world Frodo, besides the will of evil.
_______________________________
Frodo: Then I know what I must do. It's just… I'm afraid to do it. Galadriel: Even the smallest person can change the course of the future.
________________________________
Sam: I know. It's all wrong. By rights we shouldn't even be here. But we are. It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo; the ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger, they were. And sometimes you didn... See more’t want to know the end... because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was, when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines, it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you, that meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn’t. They kept going... because they were holding on to something.
"My name is Melchizedek," said the old man. "How many sheep do you have?" "Enough," said the boy. He could see that the old man wanted to know more about his life. "Well, then, we've got a problem. I can't help you if you feel you've got enough sheep."
----------
"What's the world's greatest lie?" the boy asked, completely surprised. "It's this: that at a certain point in our lives, we lose control of what's happening to us, and our lives become controlled by fate. That's the world's greatest lie."
From The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho
_______
No matter whence you came, from a palace or a ditch, You're a man, man, man, if you square yourself to life; And no matter what they say, hermit-poor or Midas-rich, You are nothing but a husk if you sidestep strife.
For it's do, do, do, with a purpose all your own, That makes a man a man, whether born a serf or king; And it's loaf, loaf, loaf, lolling on a bench or throne That makes a being thewed to act a limp and useless thing!
No matter what you do, miracles or fruitless deeds, You're a man, man, man, if you do them with a will; And no matter how you loaf, cursing wealth or mumbling creeds, You are nothing but a noise, and its weight is nil.
For it's be, be, be, champion of your heart and soul, That makes a man a man, whether reared in silk or rags; And it's talk, talk, talk, from a tattered shirt or stole, That makes the image of a god a manikin that brags.
Richard Butler Glaenzer
Lose the day loitering,'twill be the same story To-morrow, and the next more dilatory, For indecision brings its own delays, And days are lost lamenting o'er lost days. Are you in earnest? Seize this very minute! What you can do, or think you can, begin it! Only engage, and then the mind grows heated; Begin it, and the work will be completed.
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
“When I came home I saw myself in the mirror and thought: we’re alike. Don’tmisunderstand me, you’re much prettier, but we are alike in a way. Ithink I could turn myself into you, if I made a real effort.“--- Persona (1966) A film by Ingmar Bergman.

************************************************** *************** Jaina World View
Jainism, an Indian religion distinct from Hinduism and Buddhism, was founded by Vardhamana Mahavira, called "the Jina" (conqueror), who lived in the sixth century B.C. Among other variations from Hindu culture, Jainism has its own version of geography and cosmology. This chart from the nineteenth century shows the world of human habitation as a central continent with mountain ranges and rivers, surrounded by a series of concentric oceans (with swimmers and fish) and ring-shaped continents. Sacred Cows
This poster represents the figure of the cow as containing all the Hindu gods and quotes Sanskrit texts: O noble folk, protect the cow, who protects your stomach, for . . . "Brahma is in her back, Vishnu in her throat, Rudra (i.e. Shiva) is established on her face . . . Sun and Moon are in her eyes . . ." This poster was published by an organization dedicated to the protection of cattle and to convincing all people that cattle should not be slaughtered or eaten. Medieval Islamic Map of the World
At the center of the map are the two holiest cities of Islam: Mecca and Medina. The map shows China and India in the north and the "Christian sects and the states of Byzantium" in the south. The outer circles represent the seas. The manuscript is a cosmology, not meant to be accurate geographically, but only to present the reader with a systematic overview of the existing knowledge about the world at the time. Islamic World Map
This geographical treatise and collection of wondrous tales was exceedingly popular in mediaeval and early modern Islamic society. The map shown here is unusual in its portrayal of several creatures supporting the world in the firmament. While it uses a traditional Islamic projection of the world as a flat disk surrounded by the sundering seas which are restrained by the encircling mountains of Qaf, the map also shows the Ottomans' early use of geographic information based upon European cartographic methodologies and explorations. Rescuing the Earth
The Hindu view of the world is cyclic. The universe is destroyed and re-emitted again in endless cycles. Periodically, Vishnu, the great god whose function is to maintain the world, comes into it temporarily in bodily form to rescue it from one disaster or another. Once a great flood swallowed up the entire earth, and Vishnu, taking the form of a gigantic wild boar, plunged to its bottom and brought the earth back up on his tusks. In this illustration, the boar incarnation is flanked by two images of Vishnu in his normal four-armed human shape. Rescuing the Earth
In the second illustration, Vishnu in triumph tramples the demon who had abducted the earth to the ocean bottom. Scroll books are exceedingly rare in India, and this handwritten scroll with its ultra-minuscule script was probably meant as a tour de force and work of piety rather than a reading copy. Wheel of Life
In the Tibetan Buddhist world view, the six realms of existence (Gods, demigods, humans, animals, hungry ghosts, and hell-beings) are all held in the grasp of the Lord of Death. In the center of the wheel are the three root poisons of desire, hatred, and ignorance symbolized by the cock, snake, and pig, and on the outer rim are the twelve links of dependent origination by which all causes and effects are determined. The ultimate goal, shown by the monks in the left inner circle and the Buddha in the upper right, is to follow a path that frees one from these cycles. The Burmese Buddhist World
In Buddhist cosmology, deriving from Indian origins, the world is viewed as a system of continents and oceans, either in rings (as in the center here) or floating detached in the ocean. This nineteenth-century Burmese manuscript shows in one image both sorts of continents, and a cosmic ocean symbolized by fish, crabs, and snails. Other sections of the book show and describe the various heavens and hells. Folding accordion-style manuscripts on thick paper are common in Southeast Asia, along with loose-leaf manuscripts made from palm leaves. Buddhist World Map
Compiled during Japan's age of national isolation (1636-1854), this world map is representative of Buddhist cosmology. Drawn in 1710 by Htan (1654-1738), a Buddhist monk, it is characteristic of a type of early East Asian map that were not based on objective geographic knowledge, but on the more or less legendary statements in Buddhist literature. The map is centered on India and shows the mythical Anukodatchi-pond, which represents the center of the universe and from which four rivers flow in the four cardinal directions. Although published in 1482, this map is based on the writings of Claudius Ptolemy (87-150 A.D.) and presents a composite geographical image of the world as known to classic Greek and Roman scholars. Ptolemy's geographical writings, known as Geographia or Cosmographia, survived through the Middle Ages in various manuscript copies and was one of the first geographical texts to be put into print. This edition was the first edition to be printed outside Italy and the first to include maps printed from woodcuts. |

An official in the Indian state of Bihar has come up with a new idea to encourage low caste poor people to cope with food shortages - rat meat. It's argued that rats are a good source of nutrition
The Principal Secretary of the state's Welfare Department, Vijay Prakash, said that he was advancing his proposal after "much survey and ground work". Bihar's extremely poor Musahar community are rat-eaters by tradition. The Musahar are on the bottom strata of the caste system with the lowest literacy rate and per capita income. Less than one percent of their 2.3 million population in Bihar is literate and 98% are landless. DelicacyMr Prakash says his proposals to popularise rat meat eating are intended to uplift their social-economic condition. People now prefer to eat rat meat instead of chicken or goat as it comes cheaper and is more tasty and healthy Vijay Prakash "There are twin advantages of this proposal. First, we can save about half of our food grain stocks by catching and eating rats and secondly we can improve the economic condition of the Musahar community," he told the BBC. According to Mr Prakash, about 50% of total food grain stocks in the country are eaten away by rodents. He argues that by promoting rat eating more grain will be preserved while hunger among the Musahar community will be reduced. He said that rat meat is not only a delicacy but a protein-enriched food, widely popular in Thailand and France. "Rats have almost no bones and are quite rich in nutrition. People at large don't know this cuisine fact but gradually they are catching up." However he may find it difficult to popularise such a strategy in a conservative society like Bihar and other north Indian states. Mr Prakash says that he has recipes to make rat eating a delicacy, which he now wants to distribute to all the hotels in Bihar. He also wants to encourage rat farming in the same way that poultry is farmed. While eating rat meat is still stigmatised in urban areas of the country, Mr Prakash says that his research has revealed that it is a popular food item in some parts of Bihar where it is known at roadside hotels by the name of "patal-bageri". This is not the first time that the department secretary has come out with such an innovative idea. Earlier, he proposed to recruit eunuchs as security guards to maternity wards in hospitals. "Yes, that proposal is in its advance stage and we'll very soon engage them in various social activities of our department," he said. And the welfare secretary's next plan? "I'll make snake catching popular for the economic value of its venom," he said. Source- BBC |
